Since 2018 we have all made great progress in the area of privacy and data protection.
Yes, some organisations take it more seriously than others and yes, the fining regime has been relatively light touch to date. But there are organisations who take the management of personal data very seriously not just because they want to avoid a fine but because they believe “data protection is a good thing in itself”.
How can they differentiate themselves? Well, the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has, for the last three years been promoting the creation of (and accrediting) industry-specific certification schemes.
You can see FROM the link in the ICO’s latest newsletter that there are now several certification schemes, including the one that Oyster IMS works with – the Legal Services Operational Privacy Certification, known as LOCS:23.
